The PWDR is a self-assembly open source powder-based 3D printer. An inkjet printer head lays a binder onto white gypsum powder. The printer then spreads another layer of powder and the process repeats, building up thin layers into a three dimensional object.
Once the process has finished the finished object is removed from the powder bed. PWDR was developed by Alex Budding, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Twente in Singapore who felt there was a gap in the market for a powder-based 3D printer. The machine works particularly well with ceramic materials.
