Filabot is a device that recycles plastic into spools of plastic filament for extruder 3D printers.
This Kickstarter crowd-funded innovation aims to realise the eco-friendly potential of 3D printing. The machine (awarded to investors who pledged $490 or more) grinds, melts and extrudes recyclable plastic, such as milk cartons, soda bottles, various other types of plastics, and bad prints, into a 1.75 or 3mm spool that can be used with at-home 3D printers. Filabot will work with a number of plastics, including ABS, HDPE and nylon (the company is in the process of testing a number of others, including PLA).
